If you are using a funnel you must be very careful about the following, as you could quite simply lose a whole funnel-full due to this effect. After you enjoy the first 4 litres within, it is time to get started the engine and distribute the brand new oil around inside it. There will be a slight delay in building oil pressure until the new filter has been chock-full, so the oil cautionary light may stay on for a few seconds at first. Run the engine to get a minute, then switch it off and leave it for at the least 5 minutes. This gives time for the oil to settle back off to the sump, and then get a proper reading on the dip-stick. Withdraw the dip-stick from the oil filler cap and carefully wipe it thoroughly clean on kitchen paper. Now push the dip-stick completely back into its slot and remove it again. This time, it will be easier to see how far the brand new oil has come up between the two notches. The dip-stick looks a bit like a thin fat-free steel ribbon - make sure to look at both sides to find the true reading. A reading anywhere between the upper and lower level marks translates that the engine has sufficient oil to do without damage, but it is wise to try to keep that engine oil at or only below the upper amount. This is for two reasons: a greater amount of oil means there is actually more fresh oil inside engine, but also, oil serves to cool the portions of the engine that water cannot are able to. So oil actually takes on two vital roles inside engine: lubrication and cooling.

Getting the oil on the correct level on the dip-stick might be a bit tricky, and you must don't over-fill with oil - at best, the engine will blow the surplus oil out through its breather pipes and into the air filter; at worst it could actually cause oil seals to pop and subsequently get. Just keep adding a little more oil then let it take a minute before wiping heli-copter flight stick and checking all over again. It helps to know the see-through window privately of the oil container is marked in 1/4 litre areas, so you know how much has already gone in the engine. Don't just pour 4. 5 litres straight in there though, because there is always a little of the old oil still left behind in the engine.

Now it's time for you to tidy up. Wipe off any oil that has spilled over the engine with kitchen paper and place it in a plastic bag along with the old filter. I then tip that used oil into old plastic milk bottles wanting to take to the recycling where possible centre. Likewise with the newspaper and cardboard I have used. On no account must oil or anything contaminated with oil be dumped as household squander, or tipped down any kind of drain. It must be removed properly.

That's that now. Clean your tools, wash your hands, and choose a drive. Peugeot Parts
